Citronella Dog Collar

The citronella dog collar is just one of many different types of dog training collar available on the market today.  These products range from simple choke chains, right through to the more severe dog shock collars.  The latter produces a small electric shock when the dog barks.  There are also models that work using a remote control, so that you can manually emit a tone from the collar, which will help the dog to learn that excessive barking is not acceptable.

A bark collar can be used in a variety of situations. The dog may be very excitable and bark at strangers when out walking or whilst in the home, or the dog may be seeking attention or reacting to other animals. Barking is perfectly normal to a dog, such as during a play activity, but excessive barking can cause behavioural problems for the dog and for the owner. Some dogs also spend a long time barking when their owners are away from them, at work for example. This separation anxiety can last for several hours and might cause unwanted stress to the dog and to your neighbours too.

It is important that you have your dog thoroughly checked by a veterinary doctor before using any of these bark collar devices. There may be other reasons, medical or emotional as to why you are unable to control your dog. Although the dog bark collar is a valid and ideal technique to use to help your dog learn not to bark, it is also important that you make sure you are doing it for the right reason. The dog may be barking because it is ill or injured too, so it is a good idea to get the vet to check them over first.

The Citronella dog collar is a very ingenious way for pet owners to help their dog to understand that barking is not a welcome trait. The collar fastens easily around the dogs neck and a small container under the chin houses a liquid store of Citronella, an oil that has been produced from plants. Dogs do not like the smell of Citronella at all and when they bark, a small amount of spray is released towards the dogs mouth and nose. This smell and taste is so unwelcome to the canine that it soon learns to behave and stop barking.

There are several kinds of Citronella bark collar available on the market today.

• Citronella Bark Collar. This collar responds to the dog barking for which ever reason. Detectors in the collar will respond to the sounds made in the dogs throat and the spray will be released. This kind of collar is fully automatic, but will respond to any barking noise.
• Remote Control Citronella Bark Collar. This kind of collar acts in the same way, but can be triggered manually using a remote control device. This allows the dog to bark when playing or in other normal circumstances.
• Citronella Boundary Collar. This collar can be used in conjunction with a receiver unit inside the home. It is used to control where your dog can go in the house. If you do not want the dog to go upstairs, simply place the receiver near the area and as soon as they attempt to go to that location, the spray will be produced and the dog will learn where they are allowed to go.
• Citronella Virtual Fence. This product can be used outside in the garden to keep your dog from straying beyond a certain point or into areas of the garden where they may not be wanted. Receivers are buried under the ground and when the dog is wearing the collar, the spray is emitted when they go near them. These products also contain flags or markers to help your dog see where the boundary is too.
